When School's Out, The Gap Grows

Helping low-income families maintain access to nutritious food throughout the summer months.

When school is in session, many children have consistent access to breakfast and lunch.

When school is out, that structure changes.

Low-income families are asked to stretch more—more meals, more planning, more resources—often without additional support.

That’s the gap.

Each summer, Crossroads steps in to help bridge it—providing additional support for families with school-age children during a time when routines shift and needs increase.

This work is about more than food.

It’s about stability. It’s about dignity. It’s about making sure children return to school ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

The Gap Begins

When school ends, many low-income families lose access to meals children count on each day.

While summer brings excitement for children, it can also bring additional pressure for families already balancing tight household budgets. More meals at home, rising grocery costs, and everyday expenses can quickly stretch resources even further.

At Crossroads, we help bridge that gap by providing access to nutritious food that helps children continue learning, growing, and thriving throughout the summer months.

This is where the story begins.

How your support helps:

  • Provides nutritious groceries for low-income families

  • Helps reduce pressure on household food budget

  • Creates greater family stability when school is out

What Your Gift Can Do This Summer

Our Mission Is Evolving—Because the Need Is Growing

We’re proud to announce a new concept opening soon at the Shops at Redbird—a nutrition pharmacy where patients with chronic conditions like diabetes or cancer can access fresh food, referred by their doctors.

This is healthcare. This is community care. And it all connects back to what we’ve been doing at Crossroads for over 24 years.

“Sometimes, patients can’t afford fresh food because they have to pay for life-saving treatment. We want to remove that barrier.” — Benaye Wadkins Chambers, CEO

You’ve Helped Families Like Tonya’s. Let’s Help More.

Just in these past weeks, your support helped Tonya make it through spring break. Her kids were home, school meals weren’t available, and everything felt uncertain. That pantry bag? It meant peace of mind—and food on the table.

She’s standing tall now. Giving back. Helping others!

That’s the ripple effect we believe in.

Our Goal: $30,000 by May 31, 2025
