North Texas Giving Day: One Day, Endless Impact

Right now, there is a $25,000 match on the table, thanks to the generous support of our friends at NFI. So when you make a gift to Crossroads, in any amount, your gift will have twice the impact on the families we serve. Please help our southern Dallas communities stabilize and thrive by making a gift to Crossroads today!

The Dallas metropolitan area has the fourth-highest food insecurity rate in the nation, according to the latest report by the North Texas Food Bank.

Approximately 777,690 people in our area regularly experience food insecurity and 250,000 live in Dallas County. Even more alarming is the fact that nearly 40% of these individuals in our metropolitan area are children.

These people are not just statistics. They are the neighbors and friends and families we serve in the southern Dallas area—neighbors like Dulce.

Dulce, 59, took over the care of her two grandchildren after her daughter passed away. She says it is “a blessing” to have Mari and Jazmin with her, to give them a loving home where they are safe and cared for unconditionally. The girls are never late to school, and their uniforms are always neat and clean.

Late last year, Dulce was laid off from her job and has struggled with finding suitable employment. She currently works part-time as an overnight stocker, but it’s barely enough to keep the lights on and feed her granddaughters.

She constantly worries about how she’ll keep her job and keep food in the house. When her car broke down and she had to call out of work for two consecutive shifts, the stress of it all nearly pushed her to a breaking point.

So instead, Dulce chose Crossroads.

Though she was reluctant at first to seek assistance, Dulce says that contacting Crossroads was one of the best decisions she had ever made. Crossroads, she says, changed her life.

“Crossroads, their team, they really helped me,” she says. “They helped my family. It’s that peace of mind knowing that none of us will go to bed hungry tonight or tomorrow or the day after that. Now I won’t have to worry so much.”

At Crossroads, Dulce learned how to layer SNAP benefits with monthly visits to our Crossroads Community Market so she could maximize her benefits and never worry about running out of food. She received financial coaching through our partnership with Ascend Dallas and loves passing on what she’s learned to her granddaughters.

“Crossroads is special,” says Dulce. “The people there, the people who support it, they make it special. Our family is so thankful for Crossroads.”

Dulce represents just one of the 1,000+ households our Community Market serves monthly. Since another local nonprofit has announced their impending closure, we’ve experienced an increase in new families seeking food assistance. We also expect to serve more local food agencies.

This North Texas Giving Day, we need your help funding this significant increase in service.

Crossroads uses a collaborative approach to revolutionize the pantry distribution model through food equity research, client-centered services, and community engagement.

This North Texas Giving Day, we invite you to help us strengthen more families by building nutrition-stable communities. We need your help to provide consistent access to healthy food so that neighbors like Dulce, and children like Mari and Jazmin, never have to worry about having enough to eat.

Please help our southern Dallas communities reach food security by making a gift to Crossroads today! Remember, your gift will have DOUBLE the impact during North Texas Giving Day, which starts on September 1st with early giving and runs through September 19th!
