When Don retired from his wholesale distribution company, he knew he wasn’t quite ready to relax into his golden years. Don wanted to stay on his feet.
“Volunteering is fun,” he says of the time he spends here at Crossroads. “You’re doing something active, not just sitting down.”
Don brings the logistical experience from his company to our organization, which is incredibly valuable. Over the years he’s joined our Volunteer Engagement Committee, which helps volunteers stay connected to our mission and recruits new folks to help sort and share groceries.
During his time here, Don has realized just how vital volunteers are to fulfilling Crossroads’ mission. Before the pandemic, volunteers did the lion’s share of work serving the people who come to our in-house pantry. Now, we are especially grateful for Don and other volunteers who continue caring for so many.
Don says one of his favorite things about volunteering is the connections he’s built with both his fellow volunteers and the people he serves.
“It’s great to get to know the families,” he says. “You really get to know them and develop relationships with them.”
Our sincere thanks go out to Don and his enthusiastic support of hunger relief here in North Texas. We couldn’t fill empty plates without you and the generous support from many of our neighbors.
