“It put me in a really dark place,” Victor says of his time battling COVID-19.
He tested positive for coronavirus earlier this spring. As Victor faced debilitating symptoms and adjusted to life on supplemental oxygen, the most difficult part was being separated from his family — and not being able to provide for them.
Victor and his wife are raising four kids — ages 2 through 8 — here in North Texas. For six weeks, he could only see them over video chat. As a building fire inspector, Victor is an essential worker. But he couldn’t return to his job until he tested negative.
“A whole month and a half without work — it’s a hard time,” Victor says. “We got really close to getting kicked out of our apartment.”
Fortunately, he found help making rent from his boss and help accessing food through Crossroads. A friend told Victor about our in-house food pantry, and his family came by to pick up healthy groceries.
Like many local children, Victor’s little ones have been missing out on dependable school meals since March. Your generosity is making a real difference.
“I’m just thankful my kids are fed and safe,” Victor says. “My whole family is very thankful.”
He’s one of countless neighbors grateful for your generous support this summer. Thank you for sharing hope in the form of nutritious food!
